Mikel Arteta has admitted there is “still much more to come” from Arsenal summer signing Bruno Guimaraes following his eye-catching performance versus Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
Article continues under the videoThe Brazil international arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Newcastle United for a fee of €87.5 million in early August and he has immediately cemented himself as a vital player for the north London giants, despite strong competition for places in midfield.
Guimaraes has started three of Arsenal’s last four Premier League matches, including their 1-0 victory over Hull on Saturday, after netting the winner against Leeds United in mid-October.
The 28-year-old has usurped Myles Lewis-Skelly as Arteta’s favoured partner for Declan Rice in the middle of the park and the Arsenal boss was full of praise for the Brazilian during his post-match press conference after the win versus Hull.
“He’s much better. He had a massive impact; he’s hitting serious levels now, but we can still take him to another level,” Arteta told reporters when asked about Guimaraes.
“That’s my conviction; I told him that in the dressing room. He owned a lot of moments in the game, but there is still much more to come.”
Following the success of Guimaraes and fellow new arrival Ezri Konsa during the opening few months of the 2026-27 campaign, Arsenal are expected to dip back into the transfer market for additional reinforcements next year.
It’s understood that signing a new left winger is regarded as Arsenal’s main priority for 2027, with the club keeping close tabs on Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig) and Kevin Schade (Brentford), in addition to Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior.
Meanwhile, Arsenal may also look to sign a new centre forward amid reports that Viktor Gyokeres could be sold in 2027.
Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez is seen as Arsenal’s dream striker signing, although he rejected the chance to join the Gunners over the summer and it has been widely reported that he has no interest in returning to the Premier League following his spell at Manchester City.
