AEW WrestleDream 2026 delivered a long-awaited arrival after weeks of cryptic teasers featuring a ticking metronome.

The mystery finally unveiled itself on October 17, as Renee Paquette introduced a new face to the promotion following the AEW World Trios Championship match.

The appearance followed speculation about a former WWE NXT champion’s next move after his departure from the company earlier this year. AEW had gradually built anticipation through vignettes on Dynamite and Collision, leaving fans waiting for the reveal.

Ilja Dragunov officially becomes All Elite at WrestleDream

Ilja Dragunov made his AEW debut at WrestleDream, with the promotion confirming that the former WWE star is officially “All Elite.” Introduced by Paquette, Dragunov walked onto the stage and entered the ring before taking a lap and leaving without speaking.

There was no match or confrontation during the appearance, making it a brief introduction rather than an in-ring debut. Still, the announcement confirmed that the man known as “The Mad Dragon” would continue his wrestling career with AEW.

The reveal followed a series of mysterious videos featuring orchestral imagery, a metronome, and footage of a wrestler moving around a ring. AEW later tied the clues to Dragunov, including a social media teaser carrying the WrestleDream hashtag.

Dragunov became a free agent after his WWE contract expired in August 2026. Reports from Fightful Select and the Wrestling Observer indicated that he had signed a full-time deal with AEW, with visa issues reportedly delaying his arrival.

During his WWE run, Dragunov held the NXT Championship and the United States Championship. His arrival gives AEW another former WWE champion, although the promotion has yet to announce his first opponent or when he will compete.

The debut also came after Adam Page and Brodido — Brody King and Bandido — won the AEW World Trios Championships earlier in the show. With Dragunov now officially part of the roster, the metronome’s countdown has ended, but his first AEW chapter is in its infancy.
