Adam Copeland has already decided when he wants to end his legendary wrestling career, but exactly when he will step away remains unknown. AEW President Tony Khan has now shared an update on the former WWE Superstar’s retirement plans.

On the October 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, Copeland defeated fellow Canadian Josh Alexander in a qualifying match for the Clockwork Carnage Match at WrestleDream. However, the biggest talking point came after the match when Copeland announced that 2027 would be his final year and that he wants to win the AEW World Championship before ending his in-ring career.

Tony Khan is unsure how long Adam Copeland will wrestle in 2027

Speaking during the AEW WrestleDream media conference call, Khan discussed Copeland’s decision to retire next year. He confirmed that the announcement had been planned ahead of time.

The AEW President explained that Copeland had told him about his plans before making the announcement. However, Khan admitted he does not know how far into 2027 the veteran plans to keep wrestling.

Khan was also asked whether Copeland could wrestle at the Tokyo Dome. However, he did not confirm whether AEW has plans for Copeland to wrestle there and left the possibility open.

Copeland, who turns 54 later this month, has enjoyed a successful run in AEW since debuting in October 2023. During that time, he has won the TNT Championship and the AEW World Tag Team Championship alongside his longtime friend Christian Cage.

A match at the Tokyo Dome could help Copeland achieve another personal goal before ending his career. The venue hosts NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4, 2027. For Copeland, wrestling at famous venues is about more than adding another match to his record. He has previously spoken about wanting to visit certain destinations before his career ends.

Several AEW stars, including Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, MJF, and Jon Moxley, are already involved in NJPW storylines leading up to the Tokyo Dome event. However, this does not confirm that Copeland will be part of the show.
