3 ex-NFL quarterbacks give their takes on Bo Nix: ‘He has a poise that’s uncommon’

It's amazing what winning in the NFL will do.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix seems to be distancing himself from the scathing remarks made by former NFL quarterback and current NFL on Prime analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick following the team's win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6.

Fitzpatrick said that Nix's performance was "disrespectful to the quarterback position" on that night, but after Nix led his team to wins over the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs since Week 6, other members of the quarterback fraternity are showing support for the third-year passer.

Bo Nix gains support from Donovan McNabb and Matt Hasselbeck

Appearing on the Up and Adams show, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was asked by Kay Adams if he's seen a change in Nix.

"Coming off of injury, you've got to learn to trust yourself," said McNabb on Up and Adams. "It looked as if he was hesitant the first five weeks. I wouldn't even say it's so much Sean Payton and him rewording his offense to what he's used to, I think it's more Bo, and we still haven't seen the Bo that we've seen last year."

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck appeared as a guest of Colin Cowherd on The Herd on FS1. Cowherd discussed the Broncos winning 15 straight one-score games and then discussed how he feels it's the coaching of Payton, more than the play of Nix, that is getting the Broncos over the top.

"Well, it's a little bit of both," said Hasselbeck on The Herd. "I actually think Bo Nix is getting a lot of heat, and playing good football. He's very streaky, I'll admit to that, like a home-run hitter or a three-point shooter. He's his best on, like, fourth-down situations, two-minute situations; he's at his best when his best is kind of required, and you know, you mentioned the guys that are wide open, it's scheme, but it's also blitz, hots, using his legs. He has a poise that's uncommon for someone his age."

Finally, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky may have given him the most ringing endorsement yet on Monday following the win over the Chiefs.

"No statement made by Denver, we knew that," Orlovsky said. "I remember when Denver beat L.A. this year, I came on and said this is one of the best teams in football, they've got the most clutch quarterback in football right now, and it was laughed at. Bo Nix is the most clutch quarterback in the NFL."

It's said often that the NFL is a week-to-week league, and that is a true statement. The tune has certainly changed regarding the Broncos' starting quarterback.
