Morocco and Cameroon advance to League A after perfect U15 World Cup group stages

Morocco completed a flawless group-stage campaign at the U15 World Cup, while Cameroon secured top spot in Group K to join them in League A.

The final two rounds of the group stage were completed on Thursday in Hovsan, Azerbaijan, confirming the next destinations for Morocco, Cameroon, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Morocco followed a 7-0 victory over Curacao with a 5-1 win against Liberia. Those results completed a sequence of five victories for the Atlas Cubs, who had earlier beaten the Philippines 2-0, Costa Rica 4-2 and Belize 6-0.

They finished clear at the top of Group F with 15 points from a possible 15. Their record has taken them into League A and preserved their hopes of winning the first edition of the tournament.

Cameroon also remain in contention for the overall title after finishing first in Group K.

The Indomitable Cubs began with a 3-0 victory over Senegal before losing 2-1 to India. They then recovered with a 6-1 win against Laos, followed by victories over Grenada, 4-1, and Bahrain, 2-0.

That run allowed Cameroon to move above India and claim the group lead. Senegal finished second, behind Cameroon on the head-to-head record.

Senegal may feel they missed an opportunity after recovering strongly from their opening defeat. Ousmane Diop’s side recorded four consecutive wins, beating Grenada 7-1, Bahrain 7-1, Laos 9-0 and India 6-1.

The Teranga Cubs will therefore continue in League B, alongside Cote d’Ivoire, who had secured their place at that level earlier on Thursday.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo also ended the group stage with successive victories, defeating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 and Nepal 4-0.

Those wins came after three defeats against El Salvador, 3-2, Tunisia, 3-1, and Brazil, 3-0. The Leopards will compete in League D, where they can finish no higher than 97th place.
