Cote d’Ivoire close in on U15 World Cup knockout place after three straight wins

Cote d’Ivoire have maintained their perfect start at the U15 World Cup, winning all three of their group matches to move top of Group Y with nine points.

The Elephanteaux overcame the Turks and Caicos Islands 0-6 in Hovsan, Azerbaijan, on Sunday. Dramane Diarrassouba scored a hat-trick, Cheick Berte added two goals and Jadon Montilus completed the scoring with an own goal.

It was the third victory in three games for Gnamin Souh Kouame Matiriel’s side, who had previously defeated Vanuatu 11-0. Berte scored three times in that match, while Diarrassouba and Issa Bamba each contributed two goals.

Cote d’Ivoire began their campaign with a 5-0 victory against Rwanda in an all-African meeting. Their flawless record leaves them level on points with Albania, who have also been unbeaten, but ahead on goal difference.

The Ivorian side will play their final group matches on Monday against Mauritania and Albania.

Senegal and Cameroon remain level in Group K

Senegal strengthened their position in Group K by beating Bahrain 7-1, having earlier recorded the same scoreline against Grenada in reverse, winning 1-7.

Abdoulaye Diallo has scored five times across those two matches, finding the net twice in the victory over Grenada before completing a hat-trick against Bahrain. Georges Kanfom has scored twice.

Cameroon responded to a 2-1 defeat by India with a 1-6 victory over Laos, with Harouna Abdoulaye scoring three goals.

The Indomitable Lion Cubs had also beaten Senegal 3-0 on Saturday. Fareil Ngobo, Andy Massoda and Randy Ngome scored in that all-African contest.

Cameroon and Senegal occupy second and third place respectively in Group K, with six points each. Cameroon are above Senegal because of their head-to-head record.

Cameroon’s remaining fixtures are against Grenada and Bahrain, while Senegal will play Laos and India.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Mali beat Belarus 2-1 before defeating Mongolia 1-4.

Guinea recorded a 0-17 win against American Samoa but were held to a 2-2 draw by Honduras. Benin followed a 0-10 victory over the Cook Islands with a 1-1 draw against Hong Kong.

Gabon suffered two heavy defeats, losing 9-1 to Latvia and 0-5 to Scotland.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the final phase. The winner of Division A will be crowned world champion.
