Hearts of Oak delivered an impressive attacking performance to secure a 3-0 victory over Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, extending their unbeaten home run and climbing to second place in the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians needed just two minutes to break the deadlock, with Ransford Mensah finding the net with a left-footed effort following a scramble inside the Heart of Lions penalty area.

John Antwi doubled the advantage with a simple finish after a well-worked free-kick routine caused confusion in the visitors’ defence.

Hearts maintained their attacking momentum after the break, with Antwi completing his brace just two minutes into the second half following another well-constructed move.

The experienced forward’s contribution has been significant since joining the squad. He has now scored four of Hearts’ 12 league goals this season, accounting for a third of their total after 10 matches.

The Phobians have also improved their scoring output compared with the corresponding stage last season, when they had managed eight goals after 11 matches.

Coach Nebojsa Kapor appears to be getting an attacking response from his players, with their home form providing a strong platform for their push towards the top of the table.

Hearts have collected 13 points from a possible 15 at the University of Ghana Stadium and remain unbeaten at the venue.

Sunday’s victory moves them to second place, just one point behind defending champions Medeama, as they continue their pursuit of a first league title since 2021.

For Heart of Lions, the defeat extends a difficult spell. They have now recorded just one victory in their last five league matches and will be eager to turn their form around to avoid slipping closer to the relegation zone.
