Ghanaian forward James Ampofo continued his impressive form in Denmark by scoring the decisive goal in Esbjerg fB’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hobro in the Danish First Division.
The 23-year-old proved to be the difference at the DS Arena, finding the back of the net in the 25th minute to hand Esbjerg a valuable three points on the road.
Ampofo rose above the Hobro defence to power home a well-delivered cross from Adam Ahmad, giving the visitors a deserved lead after an evenly contested opening period.
Esbjerg protected their slender advantage for the remainder of the first half before producing a disciplined defensive display after the break to frustrate the hosts.
Hobro increased the pressure in search of an equaliser during the second half, creating several promising opportunities, but Esbjerg’s backline remained resolute to secure an important clean sheet and all three points.
Ampofo continued to work tirelessly in attack and was shown a yellow card in the 83rd minute as Esbjerg battled to see out the victory.
The result lifts Esbjerg’s confidence as they continue their campaign, although the club remains 10th in the Danish First Division standings with 14 points from 14 matches.
The goal was Ampofo’s fifth of the season, while he has also contributed one assist in nine appearances, highlighting his growing importance to Esbjerg’s attacking unit.
The Ghanaian will be hoping to maintain his excellent goalscoring form when Esbjerg return to action against AB on November 21, as the club looks to build momentum in the second half of the campaign.
