Pirates through to Carling Cup semi-finals

Orlando Pirates have progressed to the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals after defeating Sekhukhune United 1-0 in the last eight match at Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams had already met three times this season prior to this match, with the Buccaneers victorious in all three.

Sekhukhune United had an opportunity to score an early goal, but Nigerian striker Chibuike Ohizu appeared to fall easily in the box and the referee waved play on.

But it was the defending champions that opened the scoring in the 30th minute courtesy of man of the match Mpho Padime, to send his team to the semi-finals.

CAF Champions League

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns ladies have advanced to the CAF Champions League knockout stages after beating FUS Rabat of Morocco 3-0 in their final Group A match.

Banyana Banyana defender Bambanani Mbane scored the first goal with a powerful header in the first half.

Substitute Nthabiseng Majiya scored the second goal with a simple tap in late in the match.

And the former champions were awarded a penalty a few minutes later which was converted by Karabo Dlamini.

The South Africans also played to a goalless draw with the host team Masar of Egypt and then beat Lekie of Cameroon 2-1 to top the group with seven points.
