Ronald Araujo (£5.4m) was Liverpool’s top-scoring player in the Gameweek 9 fixture against Arsenal. The defender registered defensive contribution points for the third time this season.
In FPL, all outfield players can earn defensive contribution points if they meet the threshold in a single gameweek. Defenders need to register 10 or more defensive actions (clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles won) to be awarded the additional two points.
Midfielders need to return 12 or more defensive actions, based on the same metrics as defenders but with the addition of ball recoveries.
Araujo registered 12 defensive actions in the clash with the Gunners.
Alexis Mac Allister (£5.4m) and Jeremy Jacquet (£5.1m) were both unlucky not to register defensive contribution points, each missing out by just one defensive action.
Florian Wirtz (£7.2m) had a team-leading three shots in the fixture, while Milos Kerkez (£5.3m) led the way for chances created with three.
Kerkez also supplied a team-high eight crosses, level with Cody Gakpo (£7.1m).
The Liverpool captain was the Premier League’s most prolific defender when it came to making first contact with crossed corners last season, scoring four goals from those situations. No other player managed more.
Van Dijk is a significant aerial threat. The Reds’ next opponents, Crystal Palace, have conceded the most chances in the league from set-pieces this season with 57, meaning the Dutchman could be an excellent buy in FPL for Gameweek 10 and beyond.
Van Dijk also has a good route to points through his defensive actions. He has registered 10 defensive contribution points this season, with only two defenders totalling more.
During the 2025-26 season, Van Dijk claimed a team-leading 28 defensive contribution points, something only eight defenders in the game could better.
At £6.4m he is not a cheap defender, but the No.4 offers something that many defenders do not: a realistic route to points at both ends of the pitch.
So far this term, Van Dijk has had five attempts on goal – more than the rest of Liverpool’s defenders – with four coming from set-pieces.
Bournemouth’s Evanilson (£6.4m) is the most-transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 10. The forward has now scored in each of the last four gameweeks.
Aston Villa’s Nicolas Jackson (£6.8m) is also proving popular with FPL managers this week, having become the most-transferred-in player in a single gameweek ever in FPL last week.
The Gameweek 10 deadline is on Friday at 6.30pm GMT, ahead of the fixture between Everton and Coventry City.
