Alan Shearer has predicted that Chelsea will overcome Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, while expecting Liverpool and Arsenal to share the points in their highly anticipated Premier League meeting this weekend. The former England international offered his selections in comments reported by Metro on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
Shearer believes Chelsea have a stronger opportunity to claim victory despite their defensive difficulties and recent loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United, meanwhile, approach the fixture under considerable pressure after an eight-match winless run, leaving manager Michael Carrick in need of a positive result to restore confidence and address concerns about the team’s performances.
Explaining his prediction, Shearer said he had not witnessed enough from United to suggest they were ready to reverse their poor run. He therefore favoured a home victory for Chelsea, although he acknowledged that the London club’s defensive weaknesses could create opportunities for the visitors.
Nevertheless, the former Newcastle United striker maintained that United’s recent performances had not convinced him they could take all three points. His prediction places additional attention on Carrick, whose team must produce a significant improvement if they are to end their disappointing sequence.
Shearer also expects Bournemouth to secure a win against Leeds United. He backed Brentford to beat Nottingham Forest and Manchester City to claim victory when they host Brighton.
City could receive an important boost from the anticipated return of Erling Haaland, who missed the midweek encounter against Brighton. The Norwegian striker’s availability would strengthen Guardiola’s attacking options, although Shearer warned that Brighton remain capable of making the contest difficult for the hosts.
Tottenham are another side he expects to collect three points, with Spurs preparing to welcome Crystal Palace. Their recent victory over Chelsea has provided encouragement, and Shearer believes they can maintain that momentum. Palace’s inconsistent performances, however, have raised questions about their ability to challenge Tottenham over the full match.
The pundit also tipped Aston Villa to defeat Fulham, highlighting Nicolas Jackson’s improving confidence and recent contributions under Unai Emery. Jackson scored twice in Villa’s victory over Manchester City, and Shearer believes the forward could become an important figure in the team’s campaign if he continues finding the net regularly.
Sunday’s meeting between Liverpool and Arsenal is expected to attract particular attention, with both clubs seeking a result against a major rival. Arsenal will travel to Anfield following their midweek elimination from the Carabao Cup, but Shearer believes that setback will not necessarily determine their approach to the league fixture.
He expects Mikel Arteta’s players to respond with a different mentality, although Liverpool’s current form makes the outcome difficult to call. Rather than selecting either team to win, Shearer has backed a score draw.
He suggested that sharing the points could be a reasonable outcome for both sides, given the strength of their opposition and their respective ambitions for the season. His prediction leaves the Anfield encounter among the most closely watched fixtures of the weekend.
