Shea Lacey Set for First Premier League Start as Carrick Makes Man Utd Decision

According to a report by Evening Standard on Thursday, November 6, 2026, Manchester United youngster Shea Lacey is reportedly set to make his first Premier League start when the Red Devils welcome Aston Villa on Sunday.

The 19-year-old winger could be rewarded for his impressive performance during Manchester United's 3-2 Champions League victory over Roma on Tuesday night.

Lacey entered the game as a second-half substitute for Amad Diallo at Old Trafford and quickly made his presence felt by setting up Matheus Cunha's winning goal.

The result was particularly significant for United, as it brought their nine-game winless streak across all competitions to an end and reduced the pressure on head coach Michael Carrick.

According to talkSPORT, Carrick is considering handing the teenager a starting role against Aston Villa as he looks to maintain the positive momentum from the comeback victory.

Lacey could take Amad's place on the right wing, having impressed the coaching staff with his confidence and attacking ability.

Following the Roma match, Carrick praised the academy graduate, describing him as a gifted young player with a positive attitude and a strong determination to succeed at the highest level.

The United manager also highlighted Lacey's confidence and personality on the pitch, noting his ability to bring unpredictability to the team's attack.

Despite his growing reputation, the winger has enjoyed limited Premier League opportunities, with all five of his appearances in the competition coming from the bench. Two of those appearances have been recorded this season.

However, Lacey has already had the opportunity to start a senior competitive match for Manchester United.

The teenager was named in the starting lineup for the Carabao Cup third-round meeting with Brighton in September and opened the scoring just eight minutes into the match.

Although United were eventually knocked out of the competition, his performance offered another indication of his potential.

A possible starting role against Aston Villa would mark another important stage in Lacey's development as he looks to become a regular part of Carrick's plans.

With Manchester United hoping to secure consecutive victories, the youngster could be given a major opportunity to make his mark in Sunday's Premier League encounter.
