Real Madrid have secured the future of another promising academy player after agreeing a contract extension with 17-year-old defender Alejandro Castaño. According to Madrid Universal on Friday, November 6, 2026, the teenager has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2030, underlining the Spanish giants’ continued commitment to developing young talent.
The agreement follows the recent renewal of another highly rated prospect, Diego Lacosta. By tying Castaño to a longer contract, Madrid have taken another step towards protecting the progress of players emerging from their youth system and ensuring that promising academy graduates remain part of the club’s long-term plans.
Born in 2009, Castaño has experienced several stages of development before establishing himself in Madrid’s academy. His previous clubs and loan experiences include Quirinal, Sporting Gijón, Roda, Villarreal and La Fábrica. He joined Real Madrid’s youth setup in early 2025 and has since made notable progress within the club’s development structure.
The young centre-back has become an important member of the Juvenil B Under-18 side this season, earning recognition for his dependable performances. Madrid’s defensive record in the league has been impressive, with the team conceding just four goals across its opening eight matches. Castaño has started seven of those fixtures, highlighting the confidence placed in him by the coaching staff.
His development has also attracted attention from coaches overseeing the academy’s older age groups. The defender has recently been training with Álvaro López’s Juvenil A Under-19 squad, giving him an opportunity to work alongside players competing at a higher level. The involvement suggests that the club is monitoring his progress and sees potential for further advancement.
Castaño is also a lifelong Real Madrid supporter, making his development at the club significant. At international level, he has represented Spain at Under-15 level and has made two appearances for the Under-16 team. Those opportunities have added to his growing reputation as a defensive prospect and provided experience beyond academy football.
His progress has not been entirely straightforward. After arriving in Madrid, he was initially promoted to the Juvenil C team, but his development was interrupted in August when he suffered a serious shoulder injury. The problem required surgery and kept him away from action during a period of his development.
However, Castaño has recovered from that setback and returned to establish himself as one of the academy’s emerging talents. His performances since returning have helped persuade the club’s decision-makers to offer him a three-year extension, securing his services until 2030.
The defender is represented by CAA Stellar, an agency that has also worked with established footballers such as Eduardo Camavinga and Ibrahima Konaté. With his immediate future settled, Castaño can concentrate on improving his game, gaining experience with the academy’s higher age groups and continuing his progress.
His ultimate ambition is to break into Real Madrid’s first team. The new contract does not guarantee that pathway, but it gives the teenager time to develop within a club that has now reaffirmed its confidence in his potential.
