According to a report by Sky Sports on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Manchester City's Premier League title ambitions are facing growing pressure after three consecutive defeats, while Tottenham Hotspur have been left with concerns following their disappointing loss to Leeds United.
Manchester City's defensive shortcomings and declining performances have allowed Arsenal to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Enzo Maresca made an impressive start to his spell at Manchester City, winning his first seven league matches. However, successive defeats against Aston Villa, Brighton and Nottingham Forest have exposed weaknesses within his squad.
City's latest 3-1 loss at the City Ground highlighted their defensive problems, with individual mistakes playing a major role in all three goals they conceded.
Josko Gvardiol lost possession in the build-up to Nottingham Forest's opening goal, while Marc Guehi endured another difficult outing and was replaced at half-time.
Concerns have also emerged over City's midfield, with Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson reportedly struggling to cope with Forest's physical approach.
Ryan Yates and Xaver Schlager controlled key areas of the pitch, raising further questions about City's ability to compete against physically demanding opponents.
Meanwhile, Arsenal continue to strengthen their position through defensive consistency. Mikel Arteta's team recorded a 1-0 victory over Hull City, securing another clean sheet despite their continued struggles to convert chances into goals.
The Gunners have conceded only twice in nine Premier League matches outside their 3-0 defeat against Brighton.
Their defensive performances have been particularly impressive despite William Saliba still working towards regaining full fitness.
Ezri Konsa, who joined from Aston Villa for £55 million, has played an important role in providing stability alongside Gabriel. His performances have also reduced the pressure on Arteta to rush Saliba back into the starting lineup.
Tottenham, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Leeds United, bringing an end to their encouraging run of results under Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs struggled to match Leeds' intensity and created very few opportunities in attack. Their forward trio of Omar Marmoush, Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel failed to deliver the expected impact.
Jayden Bogle's controversial challenge on Tel also attracted attention, with the Leeds defender escaping a booking despite an extended VAR review.
However, De Zerbi admitted that his team failed to perform at the required level, saying: "We didn’t play like a top team."
The defeat has increased the need for Tottenham to improve their attacking consistency, while questions have also emerged over whether the club should pursue another centre-forward during the January transfer window.
While Manchester City must address their defensive weaknesses and Tottenham look to improve their attacking output, Arsenal are continuing to display the consistency needed to remain strong contenders for the Premier League title.
