Chelsea Make Barcelona Defender Their Top Priority Ahead of January Transfer Window

Chelsea are reportedly considering a January transfer move for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as manager Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the second half of the season.

According to a report by Football London on Monday, November 2, 2026, the French international has emerged as one of the Premier League club's priority targets as they assess potential defensive reinforcements for the upcoming transfer window.

Despite becoming an important member of Barcelona's defence, Kounde is reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea, who are closely monitoring his situation ahead of a possible approach.

The Blues are believed to be considering opening discussions with the defender's representatives to establish whether a transfer could be negotiated in January.

Alonso is reportedly keen to understand Kounde's position and determine whether the 27 year old would be interested in returning to the Premier League. Chelsea are expected to assess the situation before deciding whether to make a formal offer.

The possibility of Kounde leaving Barcelona could provide encouragement for the London club, with reports suggesting that the defender may be open to considering a new challenge. However, his willingness to explore a departure does not necessarily mean that he has decided to leave the Spanish giants.

Barcelona are also expected to play an important role in determining his future. The Catalan club value Kounde's defensive experience, versatility and importance to the squad, making it unlikely that they would allow him to leave without carefully considering the consequences.

Any potential transfer would depend on whether Chelsea can present an offer that meets Barcelona's financial expectations and whether the defender formally expresses a desire to move.

Losing Kounde midway through the season could also create problems for Barcelona, particularly because of his importance to their defensive structure and the limited time available to identify a suitable replacement.

For Chelsea, signing an experienced defender of his quality would represent a significant addition. Kounde's ability to operate both as a centre-back and right back would provide Alonso with greater tactical flexibility and additional competition within the defensive department.

The Blues have been linked with several defensive targets as they attempt to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours. Kounde's experience in European football and ability to perform under pressure make him an attractive option.

Nevertheless, no agreement has reportedly been reached between the clubs or the player's representatives.

Chelsea are therefore expected to continue monitoring the situation as the January transfer window approaches, with further developments likely to determine whether their interest eventually results in a formal transfer bid.
