Graham Potter hands top Chelsea prospect first international call up as England and Ghana doors shut

Chelsea youngster Genesis Antwi has received his first senior international call up after impressing during his loan spell at Strasbourg, with Sweden head coach Graham Potter including the teenage defender in his squad for the November fixtures.

According to a report by The Athletic on Friday, November 6, 2026, the 19 year old right back has been rewarded for his consistent performances in the French top flight with an opportunity to represent Sweden's senior national team.

Antwi has quickly established himself as an important member of Strasbourg's squad since joining the French club on a season long loan from Chelsea during the summer. He has started eight consecutive Ligue 1 matches, with his performances attracting the attention of Potter, the former Chelsea manager who now leads Sweden.

His progress represents another positive development for Chelsea's loan strategy, particularly as several players from the London club, including Dario Essugo and Filip Jorgensen, are also gaining experience at Strasbourg this season.

Antwi joined Chelsea's academy at the age of 11 and worked his way through the club's youth system at Cobham. He eventually made his senior debut in March 2025 during the Conference League fixture against Copenhagen.

His performances for Chelsea's Under 21 side throughout the 2025/26 campaign helped him secure a move to France, where he has continued developing through regular first-team football.

Sweden are scheduled to face Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland during the upcoming Nations League fixtures, giving Antwi an opportunity to make his senior international debut.

The defender has previously represented England at under 16 level before switching to Sweden, where he progressed through the under 17, under 19 and under 21 teams. He has now received his first invitation to the senior squad.

Antwi was also eligible to represent Ghana because both of his parents are originally from the West African country. However, he has continued his international development with Sweden.

If he makes his competitive senior debut, his ability to switch international allegiance would be governed by FIFA's eligibility regulations, which allow changes only under specific circumstances.

Antwi could also become the second Chelsea player to represent Sweden at senior international level. Former goalkeeper Magnus Hedman earned 58 caps for his country, although he never made a first-team appearance during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The call up represents an important milestone in Antwi's career and highlights the progress he has made since moving to Strasbourg.
