Max Dowman receives England promotion as He's called up to join Arsenal stars for the first time

Arsenal youngster Max Dowman has received a significant boost in his international career after earning his first call-up to England's Under-21 squad, marking another major step in his development as one of the club's promising young talents.

The 16-year-old has been rewarded for his impressive progress with a promotion to Lee Carsley's team. He will join fellow Arsenal players Ethan Nwaneri and Tommy Setford, who have also been selected for the upcoming international fixtures.

Dowman's inclusion is particularly significant because he has spent most of his international career representing England at Under-19 level. Having now attracted the attention of the Under-21 coaching staff, the teenager has been given an opportunity to test himself against older and more experienced opponents.

Since making his debut for England's Under-19 team, Dowman has accumulated 13 appearances at that level. His performances and continued development have helped him earn recognition from Carsley, who has now handed him the opportunity to progress to the next stage of his international journey.

England are preparing to face Portugal and France during the international break. Both matches will provide valuable experience for the young players, with Dowman expected to benefit from competing against some of Europe's most talented emerging footballers.

The fixtures will also give the Arsenal teenager an opportunity to become familiar with the Under-21 environment while working alongside players he already knows from his club. Nwaneri and Setford's presence should make the transition easier, as both have previously represented England at this level.

Nwaneri, who is 19, is currently gaining experience in Germany after joining Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan from Arsenal. The midfielder moved temporarily away from the Emirates Stadium in search of regular first-team opportunities and further development.

Although he has already made 11 appearances for Dortmund across different competitions, he is yet to register his first goal for the German side. Nevertheless, the loan spell represents an important opportunity for him to adapt to a different footballing environment and continue improving his game.

Setford, meanwhile, has also been developing his career away from Arsenal after joining Stevenage on loan. The 20-year-old goalkeeper moved to the League One club and has gradually established himself as an important member of the team.

His recent involvement has been particularly encouraging, having started eight consecutive league matches for Stevenage. The regular playing time has given him an opportunity to gain valuable senior experience and demonstrate his progress since leaving Arsenal temporarily.

With both Nwaneri and Setford already familiar with the England Under-21 setup, their inclusion provides Dowman with teammates who understand the demands of the squad. Their experience could also help the teenager settle into the group as he prepares for his first involvement at this level.

However, Dowman's international promotion comes shortly after he attracted unwanted attention following a disciplinary incident involving Arsenal.

The youngster was recently shown a red card during the Gunners' Carabao Cup defeat against Fleetwood Town. The dismissal followed an incident in which he kicked out at Harrison Neal after being involved in a strong challenge late in the contest.

The referee's decision resulted in Dowman receiving a three-match suspension, creating an additional setback for the young midfielder. Arsenal subsequently challenged the punishment in an attempt to have it overturned, but their appeal was unsuccessful.

Despite that incident, his first Under-21 call-up represents an important recognition of his footballing potential and the progress he has made through England's youth teams. The upcoming fixtures against Portugal and France will give him an opportunity to put the disciplinary setback behind him and demonstrate why he has been selected for Carsley's squad.
