According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Everton claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United after Thierno Barry scored early in the second half, while goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made several important saves to preserve the visitors' advantage.
The Toffees held on through a tense finish, with Newcastle eventually reduced to ten men after Jacob Ramsey was sent off in the closing stages.
Both sides created opportunities in the first half, but neither managed to find the breakthrough. Joelinton came close for Newcastle with an effort that went narrowly wide, while Dan Burn also threatened with a header from a corner.
Everton had chances of their own, but Jake O’Brien failed to direct his header on target, while Harrison Armstrong also missed an opportunity to test the goalkeeper.
Newcastle continued their attacking efforts after the restart, but Everton took the lead in the 49th minute. Tyrique George first forced Lukas Hornicek into an excellent save with a close-range volley, but Barry reacted quickly to the rebound and turned the ball into the net.
The goal was checked by VAR before the visitors were allowed to celebrate their advantage.
Everton looked to increase their lead, but Hornicek produced another impressive performance, denying Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before making a further save to keep out O’Brien's header.
Newcastle also came close to equalising when Anthony Elanga struck the post in the 66th minute as the hosts continued searching for a way back into the game.
Pickford then played a crucial role in protecting Everton's lead as Newcastle increased the pressure. The England international comfortably dealt with efforts from Yoane Wissa, while Ramsey also threatened with a dipping volley from outside the penalty area.
Despite making attacking substitutions, Newcastle struggled to break through Everton's well-organised defence.
The contest became more heated in stoppage time when Ramsey received a second yellow card and was dismissed, leaving the hosts with ten players.
Newcastle were given eight minutes of added time to find an equaliser, but Everton remained disciplined and held on to secure all three points.
