Raphinha reveals Hansi Flick intervention stopped him from quitting Barcelona after exit decision

Barcelona winger Raphinha has disclosed that he had already made up his mind to leave the club before Hansi Flick persuaded him to reconsider following the German coach’s appointment in 2024. According to GOAL on Friday, October 16, 2026, a decisive conversation between the pair changed the Brazilian international’s plans and helped shape the successful period he has since enjoyed at Camp Nou.

At the time, Raphinha was uncertain about his future amid speculation over a possible departure. Despite his talent, the winger believed his time at Barcelona was coming to an end and had mentally prepared himself for a new challenge elsewhere.

Speaking to The Guardian, the 29-year-old recalled that Flick contacted him while he was in Brazil and requested a meeting before making a final decision about the squad. During their conversation, the manager assured him that he would have an important role in the team, encouraging him to remain in Catalonia.

Raphinha explained that he had already accepted the prospect of leaving before Flick’s intervention. The coach’s confidence, however, gave him a fresh perspective and ultimately convinced him to continue his Barcelona career.

That decision has since produced significant results. Raphinha developed into one of the club’s most influential attacking players under Flick, delivering goals, assists and consistent performances during a highly productive period. According to the report, he recorded 34 goals and 26 assists in 57 appearances during the 2024–25 season, helping Barcelona achieve considerable success in domestic competitions.

The winger has credited Flick not only with recognising his abilities but also with helping him develop a stronger mentality. The manager’s support reportedly gave him greater confidence to express himself on the pitch and make the most of his attacking qualities.

Their relationship has remained an important part of Raphinha’s experience at Barcelona. The Brazilian believes the connection between a coach and his players can have a major influence on individual performances, particularly when a manager demonstrates trust in a footballer during an uncertain period.

Raphinha has also taken on greater responsibility within the squad. His election to Barcelona’s leadership group represented an important moment for the winger, who acknowledged that the recognition changed how he viewed his position and influence within the dressing room.

Having established himself as a key figure under Flick, Raphinha is now concentrating on returning to full fitness after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Brazil. His progress in training will be closely monitored as Barcelona prepare for their upcoming meeting with Real Betis.

If he is ready to feature, his return would provide Flick with another significant attacking option. The winger’s journey from contemplating an exit to becoming a central figure at Barcelona highlights the impact the manager’s early intervention had on his career.
