Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has reiterated his admiration for Vinicius Junior, expressing his eagerness to welcome the Brazilian forward back into the squad following his domestic suspension.
In a post shared by Fabrizio Romano on X on October 31, 2026, the Portuguese coach made it clear that Vinicius remains central to his plans and that he is looking forward to having the attacker available again after his disciplinary punishment.
“I can’t wait for Vini Jr to be back from the sanction because I love him, I need him,” Mourinho said.
The statement reflects the manager’s confidence in the Brazilian’s ability to influence Real Madrid’s attacking performances. With the club competing in domestic and European competitions, having an experienced and creative forward available could provide an important boost during a demanding period of the campaign.
Vinicius has experienced a difficult spell recently, attracting criticism over aspects of his performances and facing increased attention from supporters and football commentators. Nevertheless, Mourinho has continued to publicly support him, emphasising his qualities and determination to overcome challenging circumstances.
The forward’s current absence from LaLiga matches follows his dismissal during Real Madrid’s encounter with Villarreal. He received a four-match domestic suspension after being sent off for pulling an opponent’s hair and subsequently protesting against the referee’s decision.
Mourinho’s backing of the Brazilian has been consistent throughout the season. Earlier in October, the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Roma manager defended Vinicius amid questions about his form. He argued that removing a player from the team during a difficult period does not necessarily help restore confidence or improve performances.
The manager also acknowledged the effort Vinicius has been making to rediscover the standard that established him as one of football’s most dangerous attacking players.
During a press conference on October 17, Mourinho praised the forward’s mental resilience, expressing admiration for his ability to remain positive and continue performing despite the criticism directed towards him.
The Portuguese tactician also suggested that he might have considered leaving Spain under similar circumstances. However, he recognised that Vinicius has a strong attachment to Real Madrid and the city, which has played a role in his decision to remain at the club.
Vinicius has previously been instrumental in Real Madrid’s Champions League successes and has developed into one of the club’s most influential attacking figures. His speed, dribbling, creativity and ability to challenge defenders provide qualities that Mourinho values highly.
His suspension has consequently limited the manager’s options in domestic competitions, although the Brazilian remains part of the club’s longer-term plans.
Mourinho will now be hoping that Vinicius returns ready to make an immediate contribution, with Real Madrid preparing for important fixtures across several competitions. The coach’s latest remarks demonstrate the confidence he continues to place in the forward despite the recent disciplinary setback.
