Ghana U-23 head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed confidence that the Black Meteors will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, declaring that the time has come for the country to return to the global sporting competition.
Ofei believes Ghana has enough football talent to achieve the target, insisting that his players are hungry to prove themselves and make the nation proud. The coach is also encouraged by the team's preparations as they work towards securing a place at the Olympic Games.
Speaking about Ghana's chances, Ofei expressed no doubts about his team's ability to qualify, stating that he believes the country has waited long enough for another opportunity to compete at the tournament.
"100 per cent that we will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games," he said.
The coach explained that his confidence comes from the quality of players available in the country and their determination to demonstrate what they can achieve on the international stage.
According to Ofei, Ghana possesses considerable footballing talent, and the responsibility now lies with the technical team and the players to turn that potential into success. He believes the current preparations and the squad's determination could play important roles in achieving their objective.
"I believe we can qualify because I feel the time is right and it has been way too long. We are preparing well, and the boys are hungry to prove to the nation that there is a lot of talent in this country," Ofei stated.
His comments will encourage Ghanaian football supporters who are eager to see the Black Meteors return to the Olympic Games. The team will need to maintain its focus and produce strong performances when the qualification campaign begins.
Ofei also highlighted Ghana's position as one of Africa's leading football nations, challenging his players to demonstrate that reputation through their performances rather than relying on the country's history alone.
"Ghana is one of the best footballing nations in Africa, and it is up to us to show and, as I said, the boys are hungry to prove themselves," he added.
Ghana's qualification hopes will depend on the team's preparation, consistency and ability to handle the pressure of crucial matches. While Ofei's confidence is clear, the Black Meteors must translate their ambition into results to achieve their target.
With the 2028 Olympic Games approaching, the coach has made his expectations clear. He believes Ghana has the talent and determination to qualify, and he is counting on his players to rise to the challenge and give the country something to celebrate.
