Barcelona are reportedly weighing the possibility of selling Jules Kounde during the January transfer window, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich monitoring the French defender’s situation. According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Catalan club could consider his departure as part of Hansi Flick’s ongoing efforts to reshape the squad and generate funds for further recruitment.
Kounde’s position at Barcelona has become less secure amid a reduction in his playing time under Flick. The 27-year-old has accumulated only 458 minutes in eight appearances across all competitions during the 2026/27 campaign. That limited involvement has reportedly prompted questions about his long-term future, particularly as the club evaluates areas that require strengthening.
Chelsea are among the sides following developments. The London club came close to signing the defender in 2022, before Barcelona won the race and secured his services from Sevilla for a fee of approximately €60 million. Their renewed interest could give Kounde an opportunity to move to the Premier League, but no agreement has been reached and the level of Barcelona’s demands would be an important factor.
Bayern Munich are also reportedly considering another attempt to sign the France international. The German champions followed his situation during the previous summer transfer window and are said to remain attentive to developments. However, interest from both clubs has not yet translated into a formal agreement with Barcelona. Any transfer would depend on negotiations between the parties and whether a suitable offer meets the Spanish club’s valuation.
Journalist Mateo Moretto has previously suggested that money raised from Kounde’s sale could help Barcelona pursue a centre-forward or recruit another right-back. Strengthening the attack remains a priority for the club, while a replacement at right-back could become necessary if the Frenchman is allowed to leave.
That potential defensive vacancy is one of the complications Barcelona must consider. Kounde can operate both as a centre-back and as a right-back, giving Flick flexibility when selecting his defence. Losing a player capable of covering two positions could reduce the manager’s options, especially during a demanding part of the season.
Barcelona are already dealing with concerns involving several defenders. Kounde sustained an ankle sprain in October, while Eric Garcia suffered a thigh injury. Young defender Xavi Espart has also been affected by an ankle problem that was expected to keep him out for several weeks. Those issues could make the timing of a January departure particularly difficult.
Selling Kounde could help finance additions, but it may leave Flick short of cover across the back line. Barcelona will need to review their defenders’ availability, consider whether replacements can be secured and assess offers before making a final decision.
For now, Chelsea and Bayern are monitoring the situation, while Kounde’s future remains unresolved. Barcelona have not confirmed plans to sell him, and reported interest does not make a January transfer certain. The coming weeks should clarify whether his departure would support recruitment or whether his versatility and defensive value will persuade the club to retain him.
