Portugal: Sergio Ramos reacts to Cristiano Ronaldo's retirement

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, November 6, 2026, former Spain international Sergio Ramos has reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to retire from international football, sending a playful but emotional message to his former Real Madrid teammate.

Ronaldo announced on Thursday that he would no longer represent Portugal, bringing an end to his remarkable international career.

The announcement has generated reactions from several figures across the football world, including former teammates, fellow players and supporters who have paid tribute to the Al-Nassr forward.

Ramos, who spent several successful years alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid, also joined those reacting to the Portuguese captain's decision.

The former Real Madrid defender commented on Ronaldo's Instagram post, combining humour with a message of appreciation for his former teammate.

Ramos wrote: "Oh, really...?? Ahahahah. What a legend; time to enjoy other things in life."

His reaction was subsequently shared by the @MadridXtra account on X.

Ramos and Ronaldo enjoyed a successful partnership at Real Madrid, where they played important roles during one of the most successful periods in the Spanish club's history.

The pair won four UEFA Champions League titles together, alongside several other major trophies during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Their achievements and relationship on and off the pitch have made Ramos' reaction particularly significant, as the former Spain captain witnessed Ronaldo's remarkable performances and accomplishments at close quarters.

Ronaldo's decision to retire from international football marks the end of another major chapter in his career after years of representing Portugal and establishing himself as one of the greatest players in the country's history.

The Daily Post report also highlighted the recent tensions between Ronaldo and Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.

According to the report, their disagreement resulted in a fine and a 30-day suspension. However, no direct connection was established between the reported dispute and Ronaldo's decision to end his international career.

Ramos' message provided an opportunity to recognise the achievements of his former teammate while encouraging him to enjoy other aspects of life following his departure from international football.
