Content creator Gotha wa Mgothe has sent a fresh message to President William Ruto over plans to officially open the new Talanta Stadium with a friendly match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch side AFC Ajax.
In a TikTok video shared on Friday, October 30, 2026, Gotha said he had travelled to his village but wanted to address the President, insisting that local football clubs should be given the opportunity to inaugurate the facility.
He argued that Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, two of Kenya’s prominent football clubs, were the teams that should take to the pitch during the stadium’s official opening rather than international sides.
“I have heard that Talanta Stadium will be officially opened through a match between Ajax and Bayern. We do not want such things because we have our own local teams, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. Those are the ones who are supposed to play to mark the official opening of that stadium,” Gotha said.
He dismissed the proposed involvement of the European clubs, maintaining that the presence of internationally recognised teams should not take precedence over local football sides.
“All those other big teams are a waste of time. Do not tell us about Bayern,” he added.
Gotha also questioned why the government was insisting on bringing Bayern Munich and Ajax to Nairobi for the occasion, suggesting that there could be financial arrangements behind the decision.
He speculated that the foreign clubs might have been paid to feature in the match, although he did not provide evidence to support the suggestion.
“That could also mean that maybe these international teams have been paid to play here, yet we are not aware. That is why they are insisting that Bayern and Ajax will play here,” he said.
The content creator maintained that Kenyans should reject the proposed arrangement and allow the local clubs to take centre stage during the stadium’s inauguration.
“We do not want that. It is very simple,” Gotha said.
The announcement placed the two European clubs at the centre of the planned inauguration, prompting debate over the role Kenyan football teams should play in the historic occasion.
