Gor Mahia have strengthened their early position in the SportPesa League title race, but Murang’a SEAL have also made a strong statement after tearing Posta Rangers apart in a 5-1 victory. The weekend results have added a new dimension to the standings as clubs fight to build momentum in the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign.
Gor Mahia remain the early pace-setters after recording a second consecutive league victory. Their 1-0 win over APS Bomet followed their opening 4-2 triumph against Murang’a SEAL, taking the defending champions to six points from two matches. The narrow victory also showed their ability to collect points in a more difficult contest after the excitement of their opening match.
KCB are also making progress. Their 1-0 victory over Mathare United took them to four points after two matches, following a 2-2 draw against Nairobi United. With four points already secured, KCB have given themselves a promising start and remain close to the league leaders.
However, Murang’a SEAL produced one of the weekend’s most emphatic performances. After losing 4-2 to Gor Mahia in their opening match, they responded with a commanding 5-1 victory over Posta Rangers. The result gives Murang’a three points and a goal difference of plus two after two matches, transforming their early position following the opening defeat.
Majaliwa Charo and Josephat Lopaga each scored twice, while Michael Macharia also found the net in the emphatic victory. Their contributions highlighted the attacking response from Murang’a, who needed a positive result after conceding four goals against Gor Mahia.
For Posta Rangers, the defeat leaves them under pressure after also losing 1-0 to Shabana in their opening fixture. They have now conceded six goals in two matches while scoring just once, leaving defensive improvement as an immediate priority.
The early standings still require context because several clubs have played different numbers of matches, and some second-round fixtures remain outstanding. Nevertheless, Gor Mahia have made the strongest start among the teams with two wins, KCB are keeping pace, and Murang’a have shown they can respond decisively after a setback.
With the season still young, the challenge now is consistency. Gor Mahia will want to protect their early advantage, KCB will aim to stay within reach, and Murang’a will hope their five-goal performance marks the beginning of a sustained recovery.
