Liverpool climbed to fifth in the Premier League table after recovering from a goal down to defeat Brentford 2-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, October 17.
The victory moved Liverpool to 12 points from seven matches, putting them one point behind Chelsea, who occupy fourth place.
It also ended a difficult week for Liverpool following their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in their previous league outing.
Brentford took the lead in the 44th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter found the net, putting the hosts in a promising position before the interval.
However, the match changed around half-time when Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off, leaving Brentford with 10 players. Liverpool took advantage after the restart, with Victor Muñoz equalising in the 62nd minute.
Alexander Isak then completed the comeback in the 70th minute, scoring the decisive goal to give Liverpool the lead.
Brentford's task became more difficult when Vitaly Janelt was also dismissed late in the match, leaving the home side with nine players as Liverpool protected their advantage.
The result had contrasting consequences for both teams in the standings. Liverpool strengthened their position in fifth place, keeping them within reach of the top four as the campaign continues.
Brentford, meanwhile, remained on 10 points and dropped to sixth, behind Liverpool after the defeat. Their first league loss of the season also ended their unbeaten run.
Liverpool will now look to carry the momentum into their next fixture against Brighton on October 25. Another victory could help them close the gap on the teams above them.
For Brentford, the immediate priority will be to recover from the defeat and maintain their challenge near the top half of the table.
