Everton have been linked with a move to sign Brazilian forward Vitor Roque, but by making this deal, the Toffees could encounter a similar problem to Tyler Dibling, only worse.

This week has seen renewed links that would suggest Everton are in the market for some attacking reinforcements. Vitor Roque has been linked with Everton in what would be an ambitious swoop for a player who is still considered a future star for the Selecao.

However, signing Roque would be a risk. He had a short-lived spell in Spain, which didn’t work out for a reason that would only be worse if he were to move to Merseyside.

Vitor Roque’s homesickness would be an issue for Everton

Signing Roque would be really exciting. A hard-working, aggressive, quick, and skillful Brazilian striker who was once billed to become the next Ronaldo Nazario; however, he could be destined to fail.

This is due to a pretty simple reason, that being he would miss Brazil and almost certainly get homesick.

Roque’s time at Barcelona was a struggle due to his being homesick, and therefore quickly returned to Brazil instead. If Roque was so homesick in Spain that he failed to settle and perform, needing a return, then what chance does he have in the North West of England?

Roque getting homesick would be a more extreme version of Tyler Dibling, who suffered from being homesick at Everton when he joined, but also as a kid at Chelsea, both of which are only a couple of hours up the road, not halfway around the world.

So signing Roque carries a massive amount of risk and could end up worse than the Dibling situation, given the massive disparity in the distance from home he will be.

With £41m quoted as the base-point for negotiations by Palmeiras, Roque would be a massive risk that Everton doesn’t need to take right now, with better and safer options available in January.

Troy Parrott would be one, Will Lankshear another. Everton should avoid the risk associated with Roque, as if he costs over £40m and wants a move back to Brazil, it will almost certainly end up in a huge loss.
