2026 U-17 WWC: ‘It’s An Awesome Thing’ – Busari Celebrates Flamingos’ Final Feat

Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has described his team’s qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as a remarkable achievement for Nigeria and African football.

Nigeria secured a historic 3-1 victory over Brazil in their semi-final clash at the Mohammed VI Football Complex Pitch 3 in Rabat on Wednesday night to book their place in the final.

Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening match, the Flamingos have bounced back impressively to become the second team since 2014 to reach the final after losing their first game of the tournament.

Busari’s side delivered an outstanding performance against Brazil, dominating proceedings and showcasing impressive determination and tactical discipline throughout the encounter.

Their qualification also marks a historic milestone, as Nigeria become the first African nation to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Busari Talks Up Win Over Brazil

Busari expressed his delight at the team’s achievement, describing it as a major boost for the country and Nigerian football.

“It’s an awesome thing, it’s a great achievement. Reaching the final is a plus for our country, it’s a plus for our football. We are happy, the girls are happy,” Busari told FIFA.

Huge Respect For Opponent

The coach also acknowledged the quality of the Brazilian side, noting that his players had to demonstrate courage and tactical discipline to overcome their opponents.

“It was a key contest and it wasn’t an easy one. Brazil really showed the stuff they have technically, but we tried to really block the view of their passing line, so we had to show character.

“[We played] really, really bravely. We appreciate the girls because they are young. We could only encourage them and tell them what they needed to do to make the final,” Busari added.
