New information has emerged about Ronald Araujo’s situation at Liverpool, with the defender’s next move reportedly set to depend largely on his own decision.
The Uruguay international is currently playing for Liverpool on loan, but his contract remains with Barcelona.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, the loan agreement includes an option for Liverpool to sign Araujo permanently for €55m. However, the transfer is not guaranteed and will depend on whether the player wants to remain at the English club.
Araujo’s priority is reportedly to return to Barcelona. He views his spell at Liverpool as an opportunity to prove himself to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick.
The defender is said to want a conversation with Flick after the loan before deciding what to do next. That discussion is expected to help determine whether he attempts to re-establish himself at Barcelona or considers a permanent move to Liverpool.
Araujo has made nine appearances for Liverpool in all competitions since joining the club on loan. He has scored one goal and provided one assist.
