Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has extended his remarkable goalscoring streak in Turkey to 11 consecutive league matches after finding the net in Bursaspor’s 2-0 victory over Pendikspor on Monday.
The Nigerian striker scored Bursaspor’s second goal in the 62nd minute, strengthening his side’s advantage after Halil Akbunar had opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
According to Premium Times, the latest strike further cemented Iheanacho’s place in Turkish football history, as he continued his impressive run in front of goal since the start of the campaign.
The 30-year-old has emerged as one of Bursaspor’s key attacking players, delivering consistent performances and contributing significantly to the club’s goalscoring efforts.
His goal against Pendikspor took his league tally to 15 goals, having recorded 14 goals and three assists in 10 league appearances before Monday’s encounter.
Iheanacho breaks Bursaspor scoring record
Before extending his run against Pendikspor, Iheanacho had already established a new scoring record at Bursaspor by finding the net in nine consecutive league matches.
The Nigerian international surpassed the previous club record held by Brazilian forward Fernandao, who scored in eight successive league games during the 2014-2015 season.
Iheanacho subsequently extended his run to 10 consecutive matches with a brace in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muğlaspor on October 15.
His latest effort against Pendikspor pushed the record to 11 successive league appearances with a goal, further underlining his consistency in the Turkish competition.
Surpasses Turkish football legends
Beyond setting a new club milestone, Iheanacho has also surpassed the scoring streaks of two notable figures in Turkish football.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward moved beyond the nine-match scoring runs recorded by Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay during the 1962-1963 season and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı in the 1995-1996 campaign.
The achievement places Iheanacho in a distinctive position in the history of Turkish league football, with his consecutive scoring run exceeding the previous benchmarks attributed to the two players.
His consistency has also strengthened his standing among the leading goalscorers in the competition.
Nigerian striker maintains impressive form
Iheanacho’s current form represents a significant contribution to Bursaspor’s attacking performances, with his goals providing a consistent source of threat to opposing defences.
The forward, who previously played in the English Premier League for Manchester City and Leicester City, has continued to demonstrate his finishing ability since moving to Turkey.
His 15 league goals, alongside three assists recorded before Monday’s match, highlight his contribution to the team’s attacking output.
The Nigerian international will now seek to extend his scoring streak as the season progresses, with each appearance providing an opportunity to improve on his record.
His latest achievement also offers encouragement for Nigerian football fans following his sustained run of form at club level.
With 11 consecutive league matches featuring a goal from the forward, Iheanacho has established a new benchmark for consistency in Turkish football while reinforcing his importance to Bursaspor.
