Shrewsbury 1-0 Bristol Rovers

Shrewsbury held on for a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers despite ending the League Two game at the New Meadow with nine men.

George Lloyd's late penalty proved enough for the hosts to claim victory but they had to do it the hard way after Jay Turner-Cooke and Isaac Fletcher were sent off in the last 10 minutes.

It meant the Shrews, beaten just once in their previous six league games, condemned the Pirates to a fifth defeat in six league outings.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges, with Kian McMahon-Brown and Sam Stubbs going close inside the opening 20 minutes.

Rovers grew into the contest, with Bobby Kamwa and Tom James both trying their luck in a goalless first half.

Stubbs missed another opportunity after the break, heading a Tom Sang corner straight at goalkeeper Brad Young.

Shrewsbury finally broke the deadlock with 13 minutes remaining when Will Boyle was brought down in the box by Joe Quigley, allowing Lloyd to convert calmly from the spot.

Turner-Cooke saw dismissed for a late tackle in the 80th minute and Fletcher was also shown a straight red card in stoppage time, but Rovers could not find an equaliser.
