According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Galatasaray secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği in their Turkish Super Lig match.

Galatasaray went into the match hoping to continue their strong run in the league, but they faced a Gençlerbirliği side that worked hard to stop the visitors from finding the back of the net, with both teams struggling to create the breakthrough during the first half.

The home side defended well and tried to make life difficult for Galatasaray, while the visitors enjoyed spells of possession and continued to search for an opening, but neither team managed to score before the referee blew the whistle for half-time.

Galatasaray made changes after the break as they looked for a way to break down their opponents, with Ilkay Gundogan, Yunus Akgun and Rafael Leao among the players introduced in the second half, as the visitors increased their efforts to find a winning goal.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 88th minute, although the decisive moment came through an unfortunate mistake from Gençlerbirliği goalkeeper Irfan Egribayat, who sent the ball into his own net to hand Galatasaray the lead late in the game.

The goal proved enough to separate both sides, as Gençlerbirliği tried to respond during the closing stages but could not find an equaliser before the referee brought the contest to an end after five minutes of added time.

Victor Osimhen received a yellow card in the 90th minute, but Galatasaray managed to protect their advantage and leave with all three points from a tense away fixture.

The victory sees Galatasaray strengthen their stay at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table, while Gençlerbirliği slipped to 14th position after suffering a narrow home defeat.
