According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has been named Player of the Match after delivering a decisive performance in the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Portuguese international scored both goals in the second half to secure an important away victory for Chelsea under head coach Xabi Alonso. His contribution helped the London club return to winning ways following the international break.
Neto opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the second half, finishing with his left foot after a promising attacking move involving Jorrel Hato. The defender made an impressive run down the left flank before delivering the ball into the penalty area, allowing Neto to find the net.
The early breakthrough gave Chelsea greater confidence as they looked to extend their advantage. Neto continued to pose a threat with his movement and direct attacking play, while Chelsea maintained their defensive shape to prevent Everton from getting back into the contest.
The hosts attempted to respond, but the visitors remained organised at the back. Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers also came close to adding another goal for Chelsea, although Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and his defence managed to keep the scoreline unchanged for much of the second half.
Neto eventually sealed the victory in the 90th minute after reacting quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area. The winger kept his composure and directed his effort into the bottom corner, completing his brace and ensuring Chelsea collected all three points.
His two goals and influential display made him Chelsea’s standout performer, earning him the Player of the Match recognition after an impressive afternoon on the road.
Despite the victory, Chelsea were left concerned by an injury to goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who was carried off on a stretcher following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The Argentine was taken to hospital for precautionary medical examinations, with further updates expected after the tests.
Chelsea will now prepare for their upcoming Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur as Alonso looks to build on the Everton result and keep his side competitive among the league’s leading teams.
