According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Arsenal secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday after delivering a disciplined performance in a fiercely contested Premier League encounter. Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the first half, helping Mikel Arteta's side claim all three points against their opponents.
Liverpool started the match with attacking ambition, hoping to put Arsenal under immediate pressure. However, goalkeeper David Raya quickly demonstrated his importance by making an early save to deny Bradley Barcola. Arsenal remained organised defensively, limiting Liverpool's opportunities during the opening stages.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Declan Rice delivered an excellent pass into the penalty area. Havertz controlled the ball before calmly finishing from close range to give Arsenal the lead. The goal forced Liverpool to increase their attacking efforts as they searched for an equaliser.
The hosts responded through Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, who attempted to create opportunities in the final third. However, Raya remained alert throughout the first half. Florian Wirtz came particularly close to finding the net when his dangerous free kick struck the crossbar.
Liverpool also appealed for a penalty after Gakpo went down inside the Arsenal penalty area. Nevertheless, referee Andy Madley rejected the claim following a VAR review, allowing Arsenal to maintain their advantage until half-time.
After the restart, Liverpool increased their attacking intensity and enjoyed greater possession as they attempted to get back into the contest. Isak fired an effort over the crossbar, while another attempt from Wirtz was blocked by Arsenal's determined defence.
Despite facing sustained pressure, Arsenal remained disciplined and continued to threaten through Noni Madueke, Jurrien Timber and Christos Tzolis. Alisson produced an excellent reflex save to prevent Tzolis from extending the visitors' advantage.
Liverpool continued searching for an equaliser during the closing stages but struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. Even with seven minutes of additional time, Arsenal successfully protected their lead.
The final whistle confirmed an important away victory for Arsenal, with Havertz's first-half finish proving enough to secure all three points at Anfield.
