Premier League Sends Four-Word Message to Chelsea Star After What He Did Against Man United

According to a post shared by the Premier League on its official X account on Saturday October 31, 2026, Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders received special recognition after producing an outstanding late save during his side's 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

The Premier League highlighted the Belgian goalkeeper's remarkable reaction after he denied Bryan Mbeumo in the closing stages of the encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Sharing a video of the incident, the league posted a four-word message that read: “Mike Penders' reaction time.”

The post attracted attention because of the quality of the save, which came when Manchester United were desperately searching for a way back into the match.

United won a corner deep into stoppage time, and the ball eventually fell to Mbeumo outside the penalty area. The forward unleashed a powerful effort towards goal, but Penders reacted quickly to get his fingertips to the ball.

His intervention redirected the shot onto the underside of the crossbar before it bounced away from danger, preventing Manchester United from reducing the deficit.

It was one of the outstanding moments of Penders' performance, particularly because the shot carried considerable power and appeared to be heading towards the top corner.

The save also helped Chelsea maintain their clean sheet and complete an important victory over their Premier League rivals.

Penders had already made several important interventions during the encounter, including denying Amad Diallo on two occasions. His performance was particularly encouraging after Chelsea's previous disappointing results.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper also had an opportunity to reflect on his performance after the match. Speaking to Chelsea's official website, he explained that he had not initially seen Mbeumo preparing to shoot but was delighted that he managed to get his fingers to the ball.

“It was a very hard shot and I didn't see him coming,” Penders said. “But in the end, I was able to get my fingers onto it and I was very happy [to make that save].”

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will be encouraged by the goalkeeper's response, especially after Penders had faced criticism following the previous defeat to Tottenham.
