Rodri has called on Barcelona to improve their tactical discipline, match control and defensive transitions after suffering a 4-1 Champions League defeat against Galatasaray on Tuesday.
According to Daily Post, the Spanish midfielder believes his team must learn to manage matches more efficiently and avoid leaving gaps that opposing sides can exploit when launching counter-attacks.
In an interview with Cadena SER, reported by Barca Blaugranes, Rodri admitted that Barcelona found it difficult to contain Galatasaray's attacking players. He stressed that the team needs to become more organised defensively to avoid conceding goals from similar situations.
"For example, their first chance went in. We need to improve in that area, and they could have scored a second," the midfielder stated.
Rodri further explained that Barcelona must be more patient when progressing the ball and creating attacking opportunities. According to him, losing possession after sending several players forward can expose the team to swift and dangerous counter-attacks.
"We have to learn, perhaps by trying to attack a little more slowly, because if you lose possession, they counter-attack quickly," he added.
Barcelona's defeat has raised questions about their ability to respond effectively to challenging moments in European football. Their defensive gaps and errors in possession allowed Galatasaray to take advantage of opportunities and secure a convincing victory.
The setback has placed additional pressure on Hansi Flick and his players to resolve the team's tactical problems. Rodri's assessment highlights the need for greater composure in possession, improved decision-making and a better balance between attacking and defending.
The midfielder insists that controlling the pace of matches and limiting opponents' opportunities to counter-attack will be essential for Barcelona as they attempt to bounce back from their Champions League disappointment.
Attention will now turn to La Liga, where Barcelona are scheduled to face Real Betis this weekend.
The Catalan club will aim to secure a positive result and demonstrate improvements in the defensive organisation and tactical discipline that were lacking against Galatasaray.
