According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 22, 2026, Several Barcelona players, including Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Fermin Lopez, reported for voluntary training on Thursday despite being granted a day off by Hansi Flick ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.
Their decision highlights the squad’s determination to prepare for the crucial encounter, while several injured teammates continued their rehabilitation at the club’s training facility.
According to reports, as many as 11 Barcelona players visited the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to work on their fitness and preparation. The session came after the demanding trip to Paris for their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona returned from the French capital at approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday before completing a recovery session later that day. Flick subsequently gave his players time to rest ahead of the meeting with their biggest rivals.
Despite the opportunity to take a break, several members of the squad chose to continue working ahead of the highly anticipated fixture. Yamal, Pedri, Fermin and Xavi Espart were among those who attended the training ground.
Gerard Martin and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also made the trip to the club’s facilities. Szczesny’s presence was particularly noteworthy, considering his limited playing time this season.
The Polish goalkeeper has become known for his distinctive personality, but his willingness to maintain his fitness and dedication to training have also been evident.
Meanwhile, several injured Barcelona players continued working towards their respective returns. Roony Bardghji, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo were among those undergoing rehabilitation.
Jules Kounde was also present as he attempts to recover in time for Sunday’s showdown. However, the French defender remains a doubt, and his attendance does not guarantee his inclusion in the matchday squad.
With only two collective training sessions remaining before El Clasico, Barcelona must manage their preparations carefully. Flick will hope his players can recover physically and regain their winning form after suffering their first defeat of the season.
