Chelsea prepare 'massive bid' for €116m superstar

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a substantial offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as Xabi Alonso seeks to improve his squad, despite the player’s apparent determination to remain at Camp Nou.

FootballTransfers reported on Thursday, October 29, 2026, that Chelsea have maintained their interest in the 23-year-old after missing out on him in 2025. Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are also following developments surrounding the Spanish midfielder.

Fermin has continued to impress under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, registering nine goal contributions in 12 appearances across all competitions this season. His consistent displays have placed him on the radar of several major European clubs.

Earlier this year, the midfielder committed his future to Barcelona by signing a new contract that runs until 2031.

Despite that agreement, Chelsea and PSG remain interested in testing Barcelona’s resolve by exploring potential offers for the talented Spain international.

Reports from The Daily Briefing indicate that PSG are preparing a €80 million bid, while Chelsea are contemplating an even more lucrative proposal.

Fermin’s estimated market value is currently €116.5 million, with his projected transfer valuation falling between €104.8 million and €128.1 million.

Although Barcelona could reportedly be tempted to sell if a significant offer arrives, the midfielder is believed to have no intention of departing the club.

The competition for his services could intensify further, with Arsenal and Manchester United having also made enquiries about his availability in recent months.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a January deal aggressively. The midfielder is not regarded as their main transfer priority at present, and Barcelona would be unwilling to part with an important squad member during the middle of the campaign, particularly as they aim to compete for the Champions League title.

Consequently, Chelsea are expected to concentrate on signing Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, who was on their radar during the previous summer transfer window.

Alonso’s team have reportedly identified the England international as a priority target for 2027 following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City on deadline day.

However, a deal for Scott could be complicated by Bournemouth’s reported €120 million asking price.

Liverpool are also tracking the midfielder, meaning Chelsea could face serious competition from their Premier League rivals if they decide to make a formal move.
