According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday October 18, 2026, Bournemouth secured a convincing 2-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland after taking an early lead and capitalising on their numerical advantage following Kevin Danso's first-half red card at the Vitality Stadium.
The hosts started brightly, creating opportunities through Evanilson and Tyler Adams. Their attacking pressure produced an opening goal in the sixth minute, when Evanilson delivered an excellent cross for Marcus Tavernier to head into the unguarded net.
Sunderland attempted to respond through set pieces, with Kevin Danso coming close with a header in the 10th minute. However, their afternoon deteriorated in the 17th minute when Danso received a straight red card for fouling an opponent.
Bournemouth immediately increased their pressure, taking advantage of their extra player. Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Adam Smith created several opportunities, but Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs produced important saves while defenders repeatedly blocked dangerous efforts.
The hosts continued threatening before halftime, with Evanilson seeing an effort cleared off the line in the 33rd minute. Rayan also tested Roefs, while Tavernier missed another promising opportunity inside the penalty area.
Bournemouth eventually doubled their advantage in the 48th minute after a defensive mistake. Sunderland lost possession, allowing Evanilson to collect the ball and calmly finish into the net, strengthening the hosts' control.
The visitors struggled to respond despite making substitutions, while Bournemouth continued creating chances. Ryan Christie missed a close-range opportunity in the 52nd minute, and Roefs subsequently denied Tavernier as the home side maintained attacking pressure.
Evanilson narrowly missed with a volley in the 69th minute, while Sunderland's Enzo Le Fee sent a long-range attempt wide four minutes later. Bournemouth continued dominating possession and opportunities.
Late efforts from Amine Adli and Justin Kluivert failed to produce another goal. Sunderland could not find a breakthrough, and Bournemouth comfortably protected their advantage until the final whistle, completing an impressive victory.
