Barcelona have confirmed that 19-year-old forward Shane Kluivert will be sidelined for approximately eight weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in his left leg, disrupting his progress within the club’s youth development system.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Spanish club announced that medical examinations had identified a biceps femoris injury, affecting one of the muscles that make up the hamstring group.
In its official medical statement, Barcelona said: “Player Shane Kluivert has a biceps femoris injury in his left leg. The approximate time out is eight weeks.”
Kluivert, the son of former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert, has been developing through the club’s academy while working towards earning opportunities at senior level.
The young Dutch forward participated in Barcelona’s pre-season preparations and featured for the Juvenil A team in the UEFA Youth League. His recent progress had also provided him with opportunities to train alongside head coach Hansi Flick’s senior squad.
However, the injury has interrupted his current campaign and ruled him out of Sunday afternoon’s match against Olot. His absence means he will have to concentrate on rehabilitation before returning to competitive action.
The biceps femoris is an important muscle involved in sprinting, acceleration and changes of direction. Because these movements are essential for attacking players, Kluivert will need to recover adequately before resuming full training.
Although the club has estimated his absence at eight weeks, his actual return will depend on his rehabilitation progress and subsequent medical assessments.
The setback comes as Barcelona continue developing young talents through their academy system. Kluivert’s ability to operate across the forward line has helped him gain experience within the club’s youth structure, although he has yet to make his competitive first-team debut.
Barcelona are also dealing with another injury concern involving academy goalkeeper Eder Aller, who reportedly underwent surgery for a right hip problem and is expected to be unavailable for approximately four months.
The two injuries could affect selection options across the club’s youth teams, where regular participation is important for maintaining development and gaining competitive experience.
For Kluivert, the immediate priority will be completing his recovery and returning to action without aggravating the injury. His rehabilitation will determine when he can resume his pursuit of further opportunities at Barcelona.
