According to a report by GOAL on Saturday October 31, 2026, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has urged his players to keep moving forward after their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea left them dangerously close to the Premier League relegation zone.
The Red Devils suffered another disappointing result at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, extending their difficult run of form and increasing the pressure on Carrick.
United entered the encounter just one point above the relegation zone and could find themselves in the bottom three depending on other results.
However, Carrick insisted that his team must concentrate on winning matches rather than worrying about their position in the table.
"We have got to keep moving forward and winning games, simple as that," he said when asked about the possibility of Manchester United dropping into the relegation zone.
Asked whether there would be a stigma attached to the club falling into the bottom three, the former midfielder replied: "Not from me, no."
Manchester United started the game brightly and created several opportunities in the first half but failed to convert their chances.
Carrick was encouraged by his team's performance before the break, believing they had done enough to take control of the contest.
"I think it was as good as we've played for some time, I think, in the first half," he said.
He added that United could have scored two or three goals based on the opportunities they created, but admitted that their failure to take those chances proved costly.
Chelsea eventually took the lead in the 59th minute through Morgan Rogers, who finished after making an impressive attacking run.
United's situation became worse when Lisandro Martinez received a second yellow card following a collision with Wesley Fofana.
The defender's dismissal was followed by a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted despite goalkeeper Senne Lammens getting a hand to his effort.
Carrick admitted that losing Martinez had a major influence on the game but was unwilling to give a definite opinion on the sending-off because he had not reviewed the incident.
"Some decisions, I've not seen back, so I don't know if it was or not," he said.
Manchester United must now find a way to turn their performances into positive results as the threat of slipping further down the Premier League table continues to grow.
