Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has revealed that former Blues forward Eden Hazard has been a major source of motivation behind his impressive performances this season, with their regular conversations encouraging him to continue improving.
According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle on Monday, November 2, 2026, the Belgian international explained that he remains in close contact with the former Chelsea star and is determined to make him proud through his performances on the pitch.
Lavia recently delivered an outstanding display as Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League. His performance attracted attention, with many considering it one of his strongest outings since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard was also present at the stadium to watch his compatriot in action, something Lavia described as particularly meaningful.
The former Chelsea attacker reportedly played a significant role in convincing the midfielder to join the London club from Southampton in the summer of 2023. Their relationship has remained strong, with both players continuing to communicate regularly.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lavia explained the importance of Hazard's encouragement, revealing that seeing the pride in the former player's eyes gives him additional motivation to perform well.
Beyond his influence in possession, Lavia has also made considerable improvements to his defensive contribution this season.
Statistics from FotMob show that his average defensive contributions have increased from 8.83 last season to 14.56 this campaign. His tackles per 90 minutes have also risen from 1.91 to 3.15, while his interceptions have improved from 1.19 to 2.91.
The midfielder's recorded top speed has increased from 31.9 km/h to 32.7 km/h, highlighting further progress in his physical performance.
Chelsea will now hope Lavia maintains his impressive level when they travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in their next fixture.
