According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have discovered their opponents in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after securing an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-finals.
The Nigerian youngsters will face Japan in Saturday's final in Rabat, Morocco, as they prepare for an opportunity to win the competition for the first time in the country's history.
Head coach Akeem Busari's team secured their qualification after producing an impressive performance against Brazil, with Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru playing important roles in the victory.
Although Brazil began the encounter brightly, Nigeria gradually established control and put their opponents under considerable pressure as the first half progressed.
The Flamingos created several opportunities and finished the opening period with nine shots on target, while Brazil failed to register an attempt on goal. Nigeria maintained their attacking approach after the restart and eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute.
Joseph opened the scoring after receiving an excellent pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, giving the Flamingos a deserved advantage in the semi-final. The goal increased Nigeria's confidence, and they continued to trouble the Brazilian defence with their attacking movements.
Their efforts produced another breakthrough in the 71st minute when Bashiru doubled the advantage with an outstanding strike that left the Brazilian goalkeeper with little chance of making a save.
The forward was not finished, however, as she returned to the scoresheet 10 minutes from the end of normal time to complete her brace. Bashiru demonstrated her individual quality by dribbling past several Brazilian defenders before calmly finding the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Brazil managed to reduce the deficit in the 89th minute through Kelly, who scored with a well-directed header. However, the late goal could not change the outcome, as Nigeria maintained their advantage to secure a convincing victory and progress to the final.
Their qualification also represented a historic achievement for African football, with the Flamingos becoming the first African nation to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Japan will now stand between Nigeria and the trophy when both teams meet on Saturday in Rabat. Busari and his players will be hoping to maintain their impressive performances and finish their remarkable campaign by lifting the title.
