Liverpool strengthened their push for a place in the Premier League’s top four with a convincing 2-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to a report by BBC Sport on the same day, the Reds did most of their damage before the interval, benefiting from a Pascal Gross own goal before Alexander Isak doubled their advantage.
Brighton began the encounter with positive attacking intent and created opportunities through Yasin Ayari. However, they failed to make their early pressure count, while Liverpool gradually grew into the contest. Cody Gakpo also had an opportunity but could not direct his effort on target.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Gross inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Liverpool struck again just four minutes later, with Isak finishing Bradley Barcola’s cross to put his side firmly in control.
Liverpool continued to threaten after taking a two-goal advantage, with Alexis Mac Allister going close to adding another through a header that struck the post. Brighton enjoyed periods of possession but struggled to turn their control of the ball into clear scoring opportunities.
Seeking a response, Brighton introduced Jack Hinshelwood at the beginning of the second half to strengthen their attacking threat. Nevertheless, Liverpool remained organised defensively and dealt effectively with the visitors’ attempts to get back into the match.
Mac Allister nearly extended Liverpool’s lead from a corner, but his header was blocked by a teammate. Brighton subsequently threatened through a dangerous free kick taken by Luka Vuskovic.
Liverpool also suffered a fitness concern when Florian Wirtz appeared to pick up an ankle problem and was replaced by Trey Nyoni in the 65th minute.
Both managers made further changes as the match progressed, with Brighton searching for a breakthrough and Liverpool looking to maintain their advantage. Barcola had a promising opportunity in the 73rd minute but sent his effort narrowly wide from inside the penalty area.
Despite Brighton’s attempts to find a way back into the contest, Liverpool’s defence remained solid. Alisson was also attentive whenever the visitors threatened, helping the home side protect their clean sheet.
Liverpool managed the closing stages professionally, retaining possession and preventing Brighton from mounting a late comeback. The final whistle confirmed a deserved 2-0 win for the Reds at Anfield.
