According to a report by London Evening Standard on Friday October 30, 2026, in preparation for Saturday's Premier League match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has given crucial injury updates on Maxence Lacroix, Emi Martinez, and Moises Caicedo.
The Blues lost their Carabao Cup match against Liverpool in a penalty shootout on Wednesday, and Caicedo was a part of that match. But with about 20 minutes left at Anfield, Valentin Barco replaced the midfielder.
After the game, Alonso revealed that the Ecuadorian international had felt some pain, which led some to wonder if he would be able to play in the next Premier League match.
While trying to track Cody Gakpo's movement in first-half stoppage time, Lacroix pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, which could have been a major setback for Liverpool.
During Friday's press conference, Alonso gave an update and said that Caicedo would be available to play against Manchester United after he had recovered enough.
"No problem, he is ok for tomorrow," the Chelsea manager assured supporters regarding the health of the midfielder in the lead-up to the crucial match on the weekend.
Less encouraging was the news regarding Lacroix, though; the defender will likely miss a few weeks recovering from his injury and will not be able to return until the next international break.
While Jorrel Hato is still out with an injury, Alonso said that summer signing Pep Chavarria will likely be back in the starting lineup for Sunday's match against United.
Martinez, who broke his jaw in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Everton and has been recovering from surgery, received some good news as well.
Despite the Argentine goalkeeper's expected absence from Saturday's match against Manchester United, hopes are rising that he may make an earlier than expected return.
Martinez could make his return before the international break, according to Alonso, who said that further evaluations would decide his availability.
"Indeed, the possibility exists. Alonso informed Chelsea fans that they still have to wait until next week, but that there is a chance, as he hoped to reassure them about the goalkeeper's rehab.
