According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Manchester United are facing an increasing threat of Premier League relegation after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, extending their winless run to nine matches.
The latest setback has left United just one point above the relegation zone, raising concerns over the club's position as the season progresses. Despite the disappointing result, manager Michael Carrick expects to remain in charge for Tuesday's Champions League encounter against Roma.
United's difficult run has placed Carrick under considerable pressure, particularly after last weekend's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. However, the club's hierarchy decided against dismissing the former England midfielder following that loss.
Against Chelsea, United showed some improvement in the opening half but failed to convert several opportunities. Their inability to capitalise on those chances proved costly when Morgan Rogers broke through their defence shortly after the interval to put the hosts ahead.
The visitors' hopes of recovering were further damaged when Lisandro Martinez received two yellow cards in quick succession and conceded a penalty. Cole Palmer converted the spot-kick to secure Chelsea's 2-0 victory.
Responding to questions about his future, Carrick confirmed his expectation to remain in the dugout for the midweek European fixture.
“Yes,” Carrick told TNT Sports when asked if he expected to remain in charge for the Roma match.
He maintained that his players had shown encouraging signs before the break and urged the team to build on their first-half performance rather than allow the defeat to undermine their confidence.
United's domestic struggles have also been accompanied by difficulties in Europe, where two defeats in their opening three Champions League matches have left them 20th in the 36-team standings, putting their hopes of reaching the knockout stages under pressure.
