According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 17, 2026, Barcelona jumped out to a 5-2 lead over Real Betis in their La Liga match thanks to a stellar performance from Lamine Yamal.
The Spanish winger was an integral part of Barcelona's offensive performance, scoring the first goal with a spectacular finish and setting up another.
With a goal from Yamal in the 10th minute, Barcelona got off to a promising start. The youthful striker controlled the ball, deftly evaded defenders, and then blasted a spectacular shot from the periphery of the penalty area into the far upper left corner.
He gave the away team an early lead with a shot that goalkeeper Alvaro Valles had little chance of stopping.
With his nimble footwork, deft dribbling, and knack for finding dangerous areas, Yamal persisted in testing the Betis defense.
As Barcelona looked for more goals, his assurance with the ball kept them in the game. But in the 27th minute, Betis equalized on a header by Valentin Gomez, who soared above the defenders.
In the 41st minute, Barcelona took the lead again thanks to Rodri's header that was expertly placed from a corner by Fermin. Yet, two minutes before halftime, Betis' Giovani Lo Celso equalized with a superb strike into the top right corner.
Even though Betis tried to keep up with Barcelona after the break, the Catalans kept pushing forward. As he extended the defense of the opposition and opened up opportunities for his teammates to score, Yamal's offensive impact was clear.
The away team's lead was doubled in the 51st minute through Gabriel Jesus, but a second goal was later disallowed due to offside. Abde Ezzalzouli, playing for Betis, scored in the 53rd minute to cut the lead to 3-2.
On the other hand, Eric Garcia headed home a Pau Cubarsi delivery in the 62nd minute to put Barcelona back up 2-0. After a nice passing exchange with a teammate, Dani Olmo scored again in the 81st minute from just outside the penalty area.
Among Barcelona's standout performers, Yamal stands out for his goal, creative contributions, and relentless attacking threat. Thanks to his influence, Barcelona took command of an exciting match and went on to win a crucial match.
