GEN 0-1 GAL: Match Review and Latest Turkish League Table

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 17, 2026, Galatasaray secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Genclerbirligi after a late own goal from goalkeeper Irfan Egribayat decided a closely contested Turkish Super Lig encounter.

The visitors struggled to find a breakthrough despite creating several promising opportunities throughout the match. Genclerbirligi defended resolutely for much of the contest and threatened to take the lead on multiple occasions. However, Galatasaray eventually found a way through in the closing stages to claim all three points.

Both teams created opportunities during the first half, but neither could find the back of the net. Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen attempted to trouble the opposition defence with several efforts, although his attempts were either blocked or comfortably saved. He also provided an excellent pass for Leroy Sane, whose effort narrowly missed the target just before the interval.

Genclerbirligi also enjoyed promising moments in the opening period. Tiago Gouveia threatened the visitors' goal, while Salih Ucan forced a remarkable save from the goalkeeper after reacting quickly to a rebound. However, their inability to convert these chances meant the teams entered the break with the score still goalless.

The second half continued in a similar fashion, with both sides searching for an advantage. Osimhen came close to scoring with a header from a corner, but his attempt lacked sufficient power to trouble Egribayat. The Nigerian striker later received another excellent opportunity inside the penalty area, although his effort narrowly missed the target.

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk introduced fresh players in an attempt to strengthen his team's attacking threat. Ilkay Gundogan and Yunus Akgun were among those brought on as the visitors increased their pressure.

Genclerbirligi also threatened through Tiago Gouveia and Pedro Mendes, but neither could find the breakthrough. Goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir remained alert to deny the hosts when necessary.

The decisive moment arrived in the 88th minute when Egribayat accidentally turned the ball into his own net, handing Galatasaray a crucial lead. Osimhen received a yellow card shortly afterwards as tensions increased during the closing stages.

Genclerbirligi pushed forward in stoppage time but failed to equalise, allowing Galatasaray to secure a hard-fought victory.
