According to a report by Barca Blaugranes on Saturday October 17, 2026, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has revealed what he told Lamine Yamal after substituting the teenager during the club’s 5-2 victory over Real Betis in LaLiga on Saturday.
Yamal was once again at the centre of Barcelona’s impressive performance, opening the scoring with a superb strike before continuing to trouble the Betis defence throughout the encounter.
The 19-year-old was involved in a heated incident with Real Betis defender Facundo Bernal, who was sent off after grabbing the Barcelona forward by the neck and headbutting him. Yamal was also booked for his involvement in the confrontation.
Flick subsequently decided to withdraw the Barcelona star in the 70th minute, with the Catalan side already in a comfortable position. After the match, the German coach explained that his decision was tactical rather than a reflection of Yamal’s performance.
“When I took Lamine Yamal off, I told him I was proud of him, but with this scoreline, I had to make the substitution,” Flick told reporters.
The Barcelona manager was full of admiration for the teenager’s display, particularly his opening goal, which he described as “unbelievable”.
“For me, at the moment, this is the best player in the world,” Flick said.
He also praised Yamal’s attitude and commitment, highlighting the pressure the youngster faces while playing regularly for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Flick believes the teenager has continued to handle those demands exceptionally well, remaining focused and committed despite the expectations surrounding him.
“It’s amazing, his performance and his attitude. This is how big, big players act,” the manager added.
Yamal’s contribution against Betis further underlined his importance to Barcelona’s attacking plans. According to the report, he has recorded eight goals and six assists in nine LaLiga appearances this season.
