Atletico Madrid insider Jesus Colino has criticised Ademola Lookman’s performance in the club’s 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, questioning the Nigerian forward’s impact after coming on as a substitute.
According to a Daily Post report published on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Lookman failed to make a significant contribution after being introduced by Diego Simeone in the second half. Bayern had taken the lead through Lennart Karl in the 54th minute before Konrad Laimer doubled their advantage 20 minutes later.
The Super Eagles attacker started the encounter on the bench for the fourth time this season. With Atletico trailing, Simeone brought him on around the hour mark, replacing Alexander Sørloth, but the former Atalanta forward struggled to trouble the German side’s defence.
Lookman recorded just 20 touches and failed to register a shot during his time on the pitch, prompting criticism from Colino in his player ratings for Spanish newspaper AS.
The Atletico insider suggested that the Nigerian lacked confidence and offered very little going forward.
“Lacking confidence, he couldn’t manage a single dribble and barely contributed in a few runs down the left,” Colino wrote.
The assessment represents another difficult moment for Lookman as he attempts to establish himself as a regular starter under Simeone. However, he has previously made useful contributions in the Champions League this season, scoring against Manchester United and providing an assist in Atletico’s draw with Stuttgart.
The forward will now look to put the Bayern setback behind him and take advantage of his next opportunities at club level. He is also expected to be included in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania, where he will hope to carry improved form into international duty.
